Police to publicize accused ‘ascetic’ Ram Bahadur Bamjan amidst criminal allegations

Seizes currencies from 16 countries during raid at Bomjan's residence

KATHMANDU: Amidst mounting allegations of rape and murder, the police are gearing up to make public Ram Bahadur Bamjan during a scheduled event in Kathmandu on Wednesday.

Bamjan, facing accusations related to criminal offenses, is slated to be transferred to Sarlahi following multiple allegations filed against him in the district.

Following an arrest in Budhanilkantha, Kathmandu on Tuesday, the Central Investigation Bureau (CIB) disclosed the seizure of currencies exceeding NPR 33.4 million from Bamjan’s Kathmandu residence. Alongside this substantial discovery, a search at Bamjan’s premises revealed a cache of 20 mobile phones, two laptops, and 15 pen drives.

The intensifying investigation stems from grave accusations implicating Bamjan in a series of criminal activities, notably including the mysterious disappearance of Rita Bot, a 29-year-old from Sarlahi. Rita’s mother formally filed the initial investigation report (FIR) against Bamjan. Moreover, individuals from various regions—Suresh Kumar Ale Magar from Bara, Karma Tamang from Nuwakot, Fulmaya Rumba from Makwanpur, and Sanchaman Waiba—have leveled distinct charges against Bamjan.

Allegations of assault, notably involving rape, within the premises of the Sarlahi ashram have further intensified the ongoing investigations. With Bamjan’s recent arrest prompted by an active warrant from Sarlahi, the CIB is swiftly arranging his presentation before the district court in Sarlahi.
