Office assistant killed in wild tusker attack

JHAPA: An office assistant working at the Local Level Ward Office was killed due to the attack by a wild elephant.

The deceased is 55-year-old Pathal Rajbanshi, the office assistant at Haldibari rural municipality-2.

Contact with Rajbanshi was lost after he went for a morning walk, said Dhundiraj Giri, Police Inspector at the District Police Office. The family members mounted a search for him after he did not return home and he was found lying dead in a drain near the house.

A team of the District Forest Division Office and police is conducting an investigation in this connection and Rajbanshi’s body has been taken to the Mechi Provincial Hospital for a post-mortem examination.

Two people were killed in wild elephant attacks in Haldibari and Damak in November before this.
