Climate change is injustice for Nepal: PM Dahal

KATHMANDU: Speaking at the UN Climate Change Summit (COP-28) in Dubai, United Arab Emirates (UAE), Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal expressed that climate change and its impacts are unjust for Nepal, a country that contributes almost zero to global warming and climate change but suffers severe consequences.

“Despite our almost zero contributions to climate change, Nepali people are facing its adverse effects, so I am here to represent them. We suffer from floods, landslides, forest fires, and the bursting of glacier lakes every year, all connected to climate change in one way or another,” Dahal stated. “It is injustice and it should end.”

PM Dahal emphasized the urgent need to protect the Himalayas as they are depleting, highlighting that the Himalayas are the foundation of human civilization and biodiversity.

He also expressed Nepal’s commitment to implementing the Paris Agreement and achieving zero carbon production by 2045. Additionally, Dahal stressed the importance of transparency, equality, and simplicity in the disbursement of loss and damage funds, with a focus on prioritizing countries like Nepal.
