KATHMANDU: Prime Minister Balendra Shah has said the government has placed resolving problems in the construction sector, creating an investment-friendly environment, and accelerating infrastructure development among its top priorities.
Speaking during a meeting with office bearers of the Federation of Contractors’ Associations of Nepal at the Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers on Wednesday, Shah said the construction sector is a key driver of Nepal’s economic growth, employment generation, and infrastructure development, and assured that the government is committed to addressing its challenges.
The Prime Minister stressed the need for effective collaboration among the government, the private sector, and other stakeholders to make the construction industry more transparent, accountable, and results-oriented, while ensuring that development projects are completed within the stipulated timeframe.
During the meeting, Federation President Nicholash Pandey, Senior Vice President Mukesh Pant, General Secretary Shivahari Ghimire, Bagmati Province Vice President Bal Krishna Thapa, and former President and Adviser Jayaram Lamichhane apprised the Prime Minister of the sector’s major concerns.
They highlighted issues including delays in receiving payments, complications in extending contract deadlines, contract management problems, slow project implementation, price adjustment, banking facilities, and investment-related challenges. They also emphasized the need for stronger cooperation between the government and the private sector to revitalize the construction industry.
The meeting was also attended by the Prime Minister’s Chief Adviser Kumar Byanjankar, Information and Communication Technology Adviser Bibek Mishra, and Chief Personal Secretary Subash Sharma.
