Tri-nation T20 series: Nepal secures 5 wickets victory over UAE

KATHMANDU: In the ongoing triangular T20I cricket series in Kathmandu, Nepal clinched a five-wicket victory against UAE on Monday.

Nepal successfully chased down the target of 165 runs set by UAE, achieving the required total with 5 wickets to spare in 19.2 overs.

Aasif Sheikh led the charge for Nepal with an impressive knock of 62 runs, while Rohit Paudel contributed significantly with his 47 runs. In a critical moment, Dipendra Singh Airee, batting at number four, remained unbeaten with a crucial 40 runs.

Nepal faced an early setback as they lost three key wickets within the first few overs, with Kushal Bhurtel, Sompal Kami, and Kushal Malla departing without contributing significantly. However, the partnership between Captain Rohit Paudel and opening batsman Aasif Shaikh, who came to the crease, steadied Nepal’s innings, amassing 99 runs together.

The entry of Dipendra Singh Airee after Aasif’s dismissal proved pivotal. Dipendra made an explosive start by hitting a boundary on his very first ball, going on to strike 1 six and 6 fours in just 15 deliveries. In the bowling department for UAE, Muhammad Javadullah claimed 2 wickets, while Aakif Raja and Ali Naseer secured 1 wicket each. One Nepali batsman, Kushal Malla, was run out.
