Commercial flight starts from Pokhara Int’l Airport as Druk Air flies to Thimphu with 42 passengers

POKHARA: After eight months of anticipation, Pokhara International Airport has officially commenced commercial flight operations.

Bhutan’s flagship carrier, Druk Air, embarked on its inaugural journey from Pokhara International Airport to Thimphu, marking a significant step towards enhancing connectivity and tourism in the region.

Airport Chief Dev Chandra Lal Karna announced that Druk Air’s flight took off from Pokhara International Airport on Saturday morning, carrying a total of 42 passengers, which included three dedicated crew members.

The aircraft, originating from Paro Airport in Bhutan, touched down in Pokhara at 6:45 am.

After a brief layover, the same flight departed for Thimphu at 8:15 am, carrying 42 European tourists eager to explore Bhutan.

Notably, Pokhara International Airport had previously welcomed an Airbus-319 from China’s Sichuan Airlines, demonstrating the growing interest in this emerging aviation hub.

Karna expressed optimism about the future, stating that ongoing efforts are underway to introduce regular international flights from Pokhara, further enhancing its status as a key transportation hub.

Pokhara International Airport has been operational since January 2023, and this latest development marks a significant stride towards expanding its role in facilitating global connectivity and fostering tourism in the region.
