Ruling coalition to hold talks with UML to end parliament impasse

KATHMANDU: The ruling political factions have reached a consensus to engage in discussions with the CPN-UML, the main opposition party, in order to put an end to the ongoing deadlock in the House of Representatives (HoR).

The CPN-UML has been causing disruptions in both the HoR and National Assembly, pressing for the establishment of a high-level committee to probe the 100-quintal gold smuggling case.

Surya Kiran Sharma, the Prime Minister’s Press Coordinator, confirmed that a meeting among the ruling parties took place at the official residence of the Prime Minister in Baluwatar on Wednesday.

During this meeting, a decision was made to engage in dialogue with the UML, aimed at resolving the impasse.

Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal, popularly known as ‘Prachanda’, Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba, Unified Socialist Chairman Madhav Kumar Nepal, Deputy Prime Ministers Purna Bahadur Khadka and Narayan Kaji Shrestha, alongside other prominent leaders, actively participated in this significant meeting.

It is noteworthy that Nepal Police’s Central Investigation Bureau (CIB) has been actively investigating the gold smuggling case.

In the interim, the ruling factions had previously opted not to establish a high-level investigative committee, citing concerns about potential interference with the ongoing CIB inquiry into the gold smuggling.
