Government bans plastic bags below 40 microns



KATHMANDU: The government has banned plastic bags and products below 40 microns.

The Ministry of Federal Affairs and General Administration in a statement today announced this ban.

The statement issued by the ministry secretary Dr Krishna Hari Pushkar urged people not to use plastic bags and products as far as possible and use polythene bags below 40 microns.

He asked the government at the federal, provincial and local levels to help with this campaign.

According to the Waste Management Baseline Survey, 2022, out of garbage produced from houses, 12 percent was plastic products.

Similarly, of garbage produced from institutions, plastic products made up 21 percent, and of waste produced from establishments, plastic products accounted for 22 percent.
