Flood damages water lift project in Sankhuwasabha

SANKHUWASABHA: Flood has damaged the Sabha River-based Lohakot Bijuwapani Community Water Lift Project in Sankhuwasabha district. The project, developed by the Drinking Water and Sanitation Division Office, has been significantly damaged by the flooded Sabha River.

The flood washed away a water tank located at the water-lifting site and submerged a house that was constructed as part of the project.

The Project had already served drinking water to 100 households in Chainpur municipality-11 before the flood occurred.

According to Office Chief Devnath Singh, the project was in its final phase of construction when it was severely disrupted by the flood from the Sabha River. The details regarding the extent of the loss are awaited.

The estimated loss due to the flood is over Rs 15 million, while the total cost of the entire project is Rs 110 million.

The implementation of the project had begun in the fiscal year 2075-76 BS (2019-19). Local Consumers’ Committee Chair Udhav Raj Trital said the flood washed away the entire equipment and structures that had remained on the river bank. The loss from the flood is estimated to be in millions of rupees.
