Many schools closed owing to scorching heat



GORKHA: Palungtar Municipality of Gorkha district has decided to close all schools in the municipality due to excessive heat.

The Municipality took the decision to close 53 schools for three days starting from Sunday after students started feeling unconformable following the rising temperature, said Mayor Bibas Chintan.

He mentioned, “The schools were closed as children’s health might be affected with scorching heat in the district.”

Mayor Chintan further said the vacation could be extended if the mercury does not fall.

The temperature is recorded 40 degree Celsius at Palungtar area in recent period.

There are more than 8,000 students in Palungtar Municipality, said Madhav Pokharel, officer at education, youth and sports section of the Municipality.

Schools located at Dhuwakot, Mirkot, Chyangli, Palungtar and Thatipokhari have been affected most from extreme weather, shared the municipality.
