District attorney files case against five including former Cricketer Mehboob Alam



KATHMANDU: The district attorney’s office Kathmandu has registered a case relating to spot fixing in cricket against five persons including former cricketer Mahbub Alam.

According to District Attorney Achyutmani Neupane, the attorney’s office filde a case in the court based on the investigation conducted by the Central Investigation Bureau (CIB) of Nepal Police.

Earlier, after the suspicion of spot fixing in the Nepal T-20 League, CIB  had formed an investigation committee under the leadership of DSP Sunder Tiwari .

Police said that the involvement of 12 people was confirmed during the investigation conducted by the committee.

Among them, Nitesh Gupta, a local cricketer from Birgunj, was arrested along with Alam.

According to the public prosecutor’s office, Navin Kandel, the co-owner of the Kathmandu Knights team, and Ravi Majhi of Saptari have also been registered as fugitive defendants.

The Office has demanded action against the involved according to Section 31, 32 and 33 of the National Sports Development Act, 2077.

According to this, those involved in such activities can be imprisoned for three years and fined up to 50,000 rupees. There is also a provision to confiscate the amount of the transaction.
