KATHMANDU: Former Prime Minister Dr Baburam Bhattarai has said alternative politics is imperative at present in Nepal.

A new Nepal should be made by learning from the history and past experiences, he added.

“As long as certain castes and families rule the country, development cannot be achieved,” he said, reminding that it does not cater to democratic values and justice.

He further said the Nepalis made their constitutions on their own from 1877 to 2015, to which he regarded as Phase I.

It was the struggle Nepali waged for democracy, he said.

Similarly, the second phase of struggle ushered in the country with loktantra, federalism and secularism.

“Considering this development, we can say that Nepal is currently in the third phase,” added.

The former prime minister argued that history cannot be ignored but the lessons learned from there.

Dr Bhattarai asserted that true implementation of loktantra is imperative for the country to realize inclusive and participatory democracy.
