BHADRAPUR: A wild elephant has been found dead inside the Ranakali community forest in ward no. 4 of Haldibari Rural Municipality Saturday morning. The elephant is suspected to have been electrocuted, according to the District Forest Office, Jhapa.
The elephant was electrocuted by the electric fence put up by the locals in order to save their settlements and crops from wild animals in the northern side of the community forest, chief of the Office Bishnu Lal Ghimire said.
A team from the Office and police has reached the site where the elephant was found dead. Assistant forest officer Jeevan Pathak said that the elephant was 2.5 years old. In the past one decade, 10 elephants have died while 39 people were killed in attacks by wild elephants, according to records at the Forest Office.
