KATHMANDU: The Tribhuvan University (TU) has formed a Central Monitoring Coordination Committee (CMCC) regarding elections to the Free Students Union (FSU).

The 16-member committee led by the TU Rector Dr Shiva Lal Bhusal aims to manage and conduct the polls, it has been said.

The TU Registrar Prof Dr Peshal Dahal is co-coordinator, and Pashupati Adhikari, Director of the TU Student Welfare and Sports Directorate, member-secretary. The committee is tasked with making the election code of conduct, its directives, and procedure, said its member-secretary Adhikari.

The TU earlier decided to organize the FSU elections that were long halted due to various reasons for March 19.

Following this, on January 12, the TU through a notice directed its constituent and affiliated colleges to be prepared for the FSU elections.

The FSU polls that are supposed to take place every two years could not take place since 2065 BS due to various reasons.

The FSU has implemented the age-bar of 28 years for fighting for all positions and adopted the mixed electoral system. There are 62 TU constituent and 1,040 affiliated colleges in the country.
