President Bhandari grants amnesty to 681 prisoners

President Bidya Devi Bhandari has granted amnesty to 681 prisoners completing the specified sentence and whose jail term remains to be over.

The amnesty was granted on the occasion of the Constitution Day-2079 BS which falls on September 19 this year.

President Bhandari gave amnesty to these convicts on the recommendation of the cabinet meeting held on September 16, according to the Office of President, Sheetal Niwas.

Nepal Samabeshi Party becomes first to submit closed list of candidates under PR system for Nov 20 polls

The Nepal Samabeshi Party has submitted the closed list of candidates under proportional representative (PR) electoral system to the Election Commission (EC) on Sunday.

With this, the party has become the first party to submit closed list to EC for November 20 elections.

The EC has given September 18 and 19 for parties to submit their closed list under PR system.

Meanwhile, major other parties are in discussions to finalize the list and have been preparing to submit their closed list to EC on Monday.

Govt withdraws facilities provided to suspended CJ Rana

The government has withdrawn government facility given to Chief Justice of Supreme Court, Cholendra Shumsher Rana, who has been suspended following the filing of an impeachment motion in parliament.

Vehicles given to the Chief Justice and personal security officers (PSOs) deployed for his security have been withdrawn.

Acting on the directive of the Ministry of Home Affairs, Nepal Police Headquarters, Naxal, recalled two PSO’s deployed for Rana. Likewise, police team deployed for escorting the chief justice has also been recalled to the police headquarters.

The government has also took back the ‘VVIP’ car used by the chief justice on official functions.

Case filed against Under Secretary of Tourism Ministry

The Commission for Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) has filed a case against Under Secretary of the Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation, Pramod Nepal at the special court on Sunday.

The CIAA has apprehended Under Secretary Nepal red handed while accepting a bribe of Rs 600,000 from a service recipient.

The CIAA has demanded a fine of the same amount and imprisonment accordingly.

It has also demanded the confiscation of Rs 1.6 million said to have been recovered from the vehicle of Under Secretary Nepal.

Three arrested from EC premises for hooliganism

Three people have been arrested for rioting and shouting slogans on the Election Commission (EC) premises on Sunday.

As the EC was running the election program of registering closed list of candidates under proportional representative (PR) electoral system at its premises on Sunday, youths led by Samajwadi Kendra Chair Yubraj Safal reached the venue and began hooliganism.

After Chief Election Commissioner Dinesh Chandra Thapalia informed the police about the ruckus created by the youths, police swung to action and arrested them.

The arrested have been identified as Yubraj Safal, Krishna Gopal Banjara and Meenman Devkota.

Patan High Court orders not to proceed with demolishing structures built by encroaching Tukucha River

Patan High Court has issued an interim order in the name of Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) for not demolishing structures built by encroaching the Tukucha River.

An interim order has been issued to this effect in the course of hearing a petition filed by President Travels and Tours Private Limited’s Bhola Thapa and others.

A bench of Judge Dipendra Bahadur Bam issued an interim order not to immediately demolish structures built by encroaching the Tukucha River.

Nepal, World Bank sign concessional loan agreements worth Rs 52.75 billion

The World Bank (WB) has agreed to provide concessional loans of Rs 52.75 billion to Nepal.

Both parties signed concessional financing agreements for Rs 34.96 billion (USD 275 million) for the Accelerating Nepal’s Regional Transport and Trade Connectivity (ACCESS) Project and Rs 17.79 billion (USD 140 million) for the Digital Nepal Acceleration (DNA) Project.

The agreements were signed by Finance Secretary, Krishna Hari Pushkar, on behalf of the government, and the World Bank Country Director for Maldives, Nepal and Sri Lanka, Faris Hadad-Zervous in the presence of Finance Minister Janardan Sharma and WB Vice President for South Asia, Martin Raiser, the World Bank Nepal said in a press note.
