KATHMANDU: Flag carrier of People’s Republic of China, Air China is set to resume commercial flights to and from Nepal after a hiatus of two years.

Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal (CAAN) Spokesperson Jagannath Niraula said the airline is permitted to operate two-way Chengdu-Kathmandu flight once a week. According to him, Air China will fly on the route every Sunday for now.

The Chinese embassy in Nepal issued a notice on Monday announcing the resumption of commercial flights on the Chengdu-Kathmandu route.

“Air China has received the slot to fly on the route from June 11 to October. At present, the carrier will operate only one flight a week,” said Niraula.

According to General Manager of Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA) Prem Nath Thakur, Air China commenced flights from Sunday.

Prior to the Covid-19 outbreak, the airline had been operating regular two-way commercial flights seven days a week. However, since COVID, it had been strictly operating charter and cargo flights to Nepal.

Recently, Nepali private airlines Himalayan Airlines and China’s Tibet Airlines have been operating regular flights from Nepal to China.

Passengers traveling between China and Nepal are said to be relieved with the resumption of regular flights of Air China.
