Government presenting fiscal budget today



KATHMANDU: Finance Minister Janardhan Sharma is presenting the budget for the coming fiscal year (2079/080 BS) in a joint sitting of both the Houses of Parliament today.

The meeting is called for 4 p.m. The Speaker has urged all the lawmakers to take their seats in the parliament by 3:45 pm Sunday.

The House of Representatives (HoR) under the Federal Parliament on Saturday endorsed the policy and program presented by the government for the coming Fiscal Year 2022/23.

The meeting held on Saturday passed the policies and programs of the government by a majority.

Meanwhile, Minister for Finance Sharma, in the Economic Survey-2021/022 presented at the House of Representatives on Saturday, includes the economic details of the country for the first nine months of the current fiscal year.

The government tables the economic survey in the Federal Parliament some days before tabling the annual budget.

As per the constitutional provision, the government tables the annual budget on Jestha 15, the Republic Day.

As stated in the Economic Survey, a total of 621 megawatt of hydroelectricity including 456 megawatt of the Upper Tamakoshi Hydropower Project is linked to the national transmission line till the first nine month of the current fiscal year.

The government has a target to link 1,629 megawatt of power to the national grid. In the current fiscal year, three megawatt of power is generated from sugarcane bagasse and 14 megawatt from solar system.
