NC will not back down from ratifying MCC: NC Spokesperson Mahat

KATHMANDU: Nepali Congress (NC) Spokesperson Dr Prakash Sharan Mahat has clarified that the NC will not back down from ratifying US grant Millennium Challenge Corporation.

Speaking at a press conference in Kathmandu on Monday, Spokesperson Mahat said that the MCC was in the good interest of the country and would be passed by the House through consensus among political parties.

Noting there was a difference of opinion among the coalition parties about MCC, he said the compact was tabled in the House of Representatives (HoR) on Sunday after forging consensus. “It is unfortunate that baseless rumors, such as the American army occupying Nepali land, have been spread in the name of MCC,” he said.

Spokesperson Mahat expressed confidence that the main opposition party UML would also help in passing the MCC agreement from the parliament. He also apprised that Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba was consulting with all sides to establish consensus for MCC’s ratification from the parliament.
