KATHMANDU: Condemning the police crackdown on the peaceful protest, the Nepal Bar Association has warned of further intensifying their agitation against Chief Justice Cholendra Shumsher Rana.
Organizing a press conference on Thursday, the Bar Association objected to the police intervention in a peaceful protest.
Officials and members of the Bar have also expressed outrage over the police crackdown on the agitation aimed at “cleansing” the court.
Likewise, the Nepal Bar Association has also demanded the removal of riot police from the Supreme Court premises.
It has also urged the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) to monitor the Thursday’s incident, in which Bar Chairman Chandeshwar Shrestha and other legal practitioners were injured.
The Nepal Bar said the agitation will continue until CJ Rana resigns.
Meanwhile, earlier on Thursday, Supreme Court (SC) Bar Association Chairman Purnaman Shakya urged SC judges not to make any move that would boost the morale of Chief Justice Rana.
Stating that the agitating lawyers were close to victory, Shakya said that it would be objectionable if justices supported Rana at this time.
Similarly, Harihar Dahal, former chairman of the Bar, said that police interference in the Bar movement should be stopped.
He warned Home Minister Bal Krishna Khand to stop police repression.
