Kathmandu traffic police plans expansion of faceless traffic management system

KATHMANDU: The Kathmandu Valley Traffic Police Office has announced plans to expand its faceless traffic management system as part of efforts to make traffic regulation more technology-driven and efficient.

The office said it is developing an automated monitoring system and will implement the faceless traffic management model in a planned manner across the Valley.

Speaking on the initiative, Information Officer and Superintendent of Police Naresh Raj Subedi said the system enables authorities to monitor and enforce traffic rules through CCTV cameras and technology without the direct presence of traffic police personnel on the road.

He stated that the automated surveillance system is expected to ensure more reliable, transparent, and efficient service delivery.

Subedi also informed that the office has been conducting a traffic awareness campaign across the Kathmandu Valley since June 15 under the slogan, “Be a responsible driver, avoid fines.”

He said enforcing traffic laws and reducing road accidents remain key responsibilities of the traffic police, adding that promoting road discipline has been given high priority.

According to Subedi, around 1,600 police personnel have been deployed across the Valley to manage traffic and facilitate smooth vehicular movement.

Despite the maximum mobilization of available resources and manpower, he acknowledged that traffic management has not yet reached the level of efficiency expected by the public.

He attributed the challenge largely to the rapid growth in the number of vehicles compared to the pace of road infrastructure development.

Subedi said the Kathmandu Valley Traffic Police Office remains committed to addressing existing challenges and improving traffic management through greater use of technology and systematic enforcement measures.
