KATHMANDU: Domaya Paudel, wife of former Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Bishnu Paudel, has filed a petition at the Supreme Court challenging her husband’s arrest and detention.
In the petition, she claims that Paudel has been detained unlawfully and has sought a court order for his immediate release.
The petition names the Special Court, the Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers, the Ministry of Home Affairs, the Department of Money Laundering Investigation, and Surkhet Police as respondents.
The Supreme Court is scheduled to conduct a preliminary hearing on the petition on Thursday.
Earlier on Tuesday, the Special Court granted the Department of Money Laundering Investigation permission to keep Paudel in custody for seven days for further investigation.
Paudel was arrested from Surkhet on Monday and was transported to Kathmandu by road the same night. He was subsequently presented before the Special Court on Tuesday for judicial proceedings.
