Death toll in Miklajung massacre climbs to 10 as youngest son-in-law found hanging

KATHMANDU: The death toll in Miklajung massacre has reached 10 as the youngest son-in-law of Bam Bahadur Fiyak was found hanging in his house, Hasta Raj Fiyak, ward chairman, told Khabarhub. The death of Fiyak’s youngest-son-in-law Man Bahadur Makhim has made the incident further mysterious.

He was staying alone in his house after his wife, the youngest daughter of Fiyak, was staying in the maternal’s house after her relationship with her husband soured.

The difference between the house of son-in-law Sherma and that of father-in-law Fiyak’s  is  around two kilometers.

The death toll in Miklajung massacre has reached 10 as the youngest son-in-law of Bam Bahaadur Fiyak was found hanging in his house, Hasta Raj Fiyak, ward chairman, told Khabarhub.

Nine members including a minor of two families were gruesomely murdered at Arubote in Miklajung Rural Municipality-3 in the district on Monday night, confirmed, Urmila Rai, deputy chief of the rural municipality.  The mutilated bodies were found strewn in both the houses.

According to Archana Gurung, a local, nine members of Dhanaraj Sherma and his father-in-law Bam Bahadur Fiyak were gruesomely killed with a sharp weapon on Monday night. Five dead bodies of Dhanraj family are lying inside the house while four dead bodies of  Bam Bahadur’s family are outside the house, informed Gurung.

Those murdered include Jasmita Fiyak, 36, Dhan Raj Fiyak, 41, Man Kumari Fiyak, 26, Iksha Sherma, 6, Yobana Sherma, 13, Muna Sherma, 8, Bam Bahadur Fiyak, 74, his wife and Ashika Khajum Limbu, 12. Only one member of the family, Sita Khajum, 12, managed to save her life by feeling the heinous scene.

Locals knew about the incident only this morning. It is learnt that a group of masked men barged into the house at night and  murdered the family members in cold blood.

A team of security personnel from police post, Dashami Bazaar, police personnel from Area Police Office, Rabi and District Police Office have reached the incident site and are carrying out investigation into the case.
