10 police personnel recommended for action over detainee death in custody



KATHMANDU: A probe committee has recommended departmental action against 10 police personnel, ranging from a Superintendent of Police to constables, in connection with the death of a detainee at the custody cell of the Area Police Office, Khurkot in Sindhuli.

The recommendation was made by an investigation committee led by Deputy Inspector General of Police Dinesh Kumar Acharya, formed to investigate the death of 23-year-old Shreekrishna BK of Jumledanda, Sunkoshi Rural Municipality-3, who died while in police custody.

According to the Central Police News Room, the committee recommended disciplinary measures against the officers involved, including a warning for one individual, formal attention notices for two, warnings along with removal from responsibilities for five, reprimand for one, and demotion for another.

The committee also suggested that police personnel prioritize the safety and security of individuals in custody, ensure full implementation of the Custody Management Directive 2081, avoid engaging in other tasks during duty hours, and maintain regular monitoring of detainees.
