FNJ announces fresh protest programs



KATHMANDU: Federation of Nepal Journalist (FNJ) on Sunday unveiled its second-round of protest programs against the Media Council Bill proposed by the government.

The FNJ, an umbrella organization of journalists, will organize discussion programs with former FNJ presidents on May 20 and 21 and draw the political parties’ attention from May 23 to 26 to apprise them about the government’s intention to curb freedom of the press.

Likewise, the FNJ said it would organize a media campaign by discussing the issue with editors of different media houses from 23 to 26.

According to FNJ, they will hold interaction programs with lawmakers on May 27 and 28.

Likewise, on May 30 and 31, the fighters for press freedom would express solidarity with FNJ while its branches and associates would hold discussion program to inform the working journalists about the negative impact of the bill on freedom of the press on May 30 and 31.

The district branches of FNJ will organize interaction programs with various political parties, journalists, civil society members, professionals, and human rights defenders on June 4 and 5.

Likewise, FNJ said it will organize an interaction with various political leaders, journalists, professionals, human rights defenders, civil society leaders, among others in Kathmandu on June 6 and 7 in Kathmandu.

On June 8, FNJ will hold a demonstration by forming a human chain from New Baneswor to Babarmahal at 3 pm against the bill.
