Western trough likely to bring rainfall today



KATHMANDU: The influence of a western trough in the upper atmosphere, combined with local winds, is likely to bring rainfall to various parts of the country.

According to the Weather Forecasting Division, weather conditions are currently generally cloudy over most hilly and mountainous areas, including Gandaki, Lumbini and Karnali provinces, while the Terai region remains partly cloudy.

Light rainfall is being recorded at a few places in Lumbini Province and at isolated locations in Koshi, Bagmati, Gandaki and Karnali provinces.

The Division has forecast generally cloudy conditions this afternoon across the hilly and mountainous regions of the country, including Koshi, Madhesh and Bagmati provinces, with partly cloudy skies expected over the remaining Terai areas.

There is a possibility of moderate rainfall accompanied by thunder and lightning at some places in Koshi and Madhesh provinces, as well as in parts of the country’s hilly and mountainous regions. Light to moderate rainfall is also likely at one or two places in the Terai areas of Bagmati, Gandaki and Lumbini provinces.

Tonight, weather conditions are expected to remain generally cloudy in the hilly and mountainous regions, including Koshi Province, while the Terai region, including Madhesh Province, will remain partly cloudy.

The Division has also forecast moderate rainfall with thunder and lightning at a few places in the hilly and mountainous areas of Koshi, Bagmati and Gandaki provinces.

There is a possibility of light rainfall in one or two places in the Terai regions of Madhesh, Bagmati and Gandaki provinces, while light rain and snowfall may occur at isolated locations in the high mountainous areas.

The Division has urged the public and concerned authorities to remain alert, as rainfall, thunderstorms and snowfall could partially affect daily life, agriculture, and road and air transportation.
