KATHMANDU: The report of the task force formed to study the dispute in the area bordering China from Limi Lapsa to Hilsa in Namkha rural municipality of Humla has concluded that the Nepali land has been encroached by China.

A member of the study team told Khabarhub on the condition of anonymity that the report submitted to the Home Ministry Sunday mentioned that there was a problem on the Chinese border and that the border post was surrounded by tarpaulins.

Earlier, an exclusive video taken by Khabarhub showed Chinese encroaching Nepal’s border in Humla district.

According to the member, during the monitoring, it was evident that China had barricaded the border pillar in Humla and new infrastructures had been constructed.

Locals also said that there were problems at the Nepal-China border.

Hence, the report has suggested forming a joint inspection team from Nepal and China to deal with the border issue.

Another member of the study requesting anonymity told Khabarhub that the report also states that Nepal should have security personnel for the security of the border area, citing the new physical infrastructure built by China and the suffering of the people in the border area.

Meanwhile speaking at a program in Kathmandu, noted experts had alleged China for reaping sizeable harvest of political parties’ “nationalism rhetoric” and positive perceptions about China.

They said Nepal has failed to resolve the border issue with the northern neighbor for the political parties’ different approaches about India and China.

Nepali Congress (NC) central member and leader of the parliamentary party of Karnali Province Jeewan Bahadur Shahi and NC lawmaker Rangamati Shahi, too, had earlier said that there had been a border dispute since 2021 BS between the two countries.

Jeevan Bahadur Shahi and his team also made an on-the-spot study of the encroached land for 11 days last year.

During the visit, it was found that Pillar number 12 was newly constructed.
