NC leader Sharma proposes term-limits for executive posts in government

KATHMANDU: Nepali Congress (NC) Spokesperson Bishwa Prakash Sharma, who announced his candidature for the post of General Secretary, has advocated for a provision whereby President cannot be elected more than once and the Prime Minister more than twice.

Unveiling a concept paper titled ‘Past’s Political Change, Present Change in Politics’ at the home district of Jhapa Sunday, he proposed that none should be made President twice and Prime Minister thrice.

Putting forward the slogan of one, two, three, four; NC Spokesperson Sharma advocated that one should not be allowed to take the oath of President more than once, the prime minister more than twice, minister more than three times, and lawmakers more than four times. “If this is done, then the question of age limit will be non-relevant,” he said.

He said if such a system is implemented, a creative governance system of appointments and retirements to government posts would be in place by displacing the existing system.
