Constitution needs to be rewritten: Prabhu Sah

KATHMANDU: While the main opposition party CPN-UML is celebrating the Constitution Day, Prabhu Sah, an influencing Madheshi leader of the party has said that the Constitution needs to be rewritten.

UML leader Sah, who is also a former minister, said on social media on Sunday that amendment to the constitution was necessary.

On the occasion of the seventh constitution day, he remarked that it is necessary to review the current constitutional provisions.

“The provisions to form 761 governments in a small country like Nepal, to create unnecessary three tiers in a federal country, to give reservation to the ruling caste, to create dozens of unnecessary constitutional commissions, to make wrong arrangements regarding dual citizenship, to keep old judiciary and bureaucracy, unbalanced separation of powers, partisan revenue” Sah pointed out the provisions he deemed needing amendments and added, “The distribution of power is not balanced as well.”

Many Madhesh based parties and leaders have been reiterating on the need to revise the Constitution so as to make it more inclusive.
