India-built Makwanpur school building inaugurated



KATHMANDU: Consul General Nitesh Kumar, the Consulate General of India in Birgunj, on behalf of the Government of India (GOI), and the District Coordination Committee, Makwanpur and School Management Committee and local representatives, on behalf of the Government of Nepal (GON), jointly inaugurated the newly constructed building of Shree Bagmati Lower Secondary School at Liti Khola, Phaparbari, Makwanpur, Thursday.

The GOI assisted with Rs. 8.97 million for the school construction.

The GOI grant, under ‘Nepal-Bharat Development Cooperation’, was utilized for construction of two-storied school building, including ten class rooms, furniture and sanitation facilities. The project was taken up as a High Impact Community Development Project (HICDP) under an agreement between the governments of the neighboring nations.

Shree Bagmati Lower Secondary School was established in 2089 at Litti Khola (Bageri) in Makwanpur district as primary school and subsequently upgraded as lower secondary school in 2007. At present, 355 students are enrolled in the school.

The building is constructed in a manner conductive to the school needs’ and will boost learning environment for students. The GoI’s financial assistance for the construction of this school reflects the importance attached to enhancement of educational infrastructure by the government of neighboring countries.

The inauguration of the school is also a milestone under various activities undertaken by India to celebrate ‘Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav’ (India@75) commemorating 75 year of India’s independence.
