KATHMANDU: International Trade Union Confederation–Nepal Affiliated Council (ITUC-NAC) has sought the ratification of the ILO Convention No. 190 by the parliament.

The umbrella body of three major trade unions, the General Federation of Nepal Trade Unions (GEFONT), National Trade Union Confederation (NTUC), and All Nepal Trade Union Federation (ANTUF), has said that there was no alternative to the endorsement of the C190 to build a ground for fostering a decent work culture and advance towards a violence-free, safe and civilized society.

The ILO C190 ( Violence and Harassment Convention- 2019) has provisions about the elimination of gender-based violence and harassment, discrimination in a division of labor, sexual harassment against women workers at work, and so on, advocating for equal pay for equal work, a decent working environment, and the equitable labor sector.

IUTC-NAC chair and ANTUF chair Jagat Simkhada said trade unions were always raising voices for violence-free and safe workplaces for workers across the country since the establishment.

The ILO had passed the Convention 190 in 2019 and so far seven nations have ratified it.
