KATHMANDU: The probe committee formed to spell out the truth behind the incident of the disappearance of Jayasingh Dhami– who went missing in the Mahakali River while crossing it via a tuin or wire crossing in Darchula– submitted its report to the Home Ministry on Tuesday.

The committee that was under public criticism for not being able to submit the report despite repeatedly extending timeline submitted the report to Home Minister Balkrishna Khand.

Receiving the probe report, Home Minister Khand expressed government’s commitment to implement the report. He directed Home Secretary Tek Narayan Pandey to initiate a process for the implementation of the report. The government is committed to protecting the lives of the citizens, Khand, said, expressing hope that the report prepared based on field-based study would revitalize optimism among the people.

Minister Khand said that the report prepared on the sensitive issue would also serve as a guiding document for the future. It may be noted that the ministry had formed a committee headed by its joint-secretary Janardan Gautam to study the incident. The team had left for the on-site investigation into the incident on August 2.

Dhami went missing in the Mahakali River while he was crossing through the ropeway at Byas rural municipality-2 of Darchula on July 30. The family members of Dhami and locals had accused the Indian SSB of cutting off the rope (tuin) while some said that the SSB personnel had dislodged the rope.

Meanwhile, another committee formed to investigate the death of Police Inspector of Area Police Office, Bardaghat, Kapil Wagle has also submitted its report to the ministry today. Inspector Wagle died after he was knocked by a motorbike in Nawalparasi (Bardaghat) on August 9. A team headed by ministry joint-secretary Sunil Khanal was formed to probe the incident. Minister Khand directed the ministry officials to implement the report.
