SC issues interim order to arrange inoculation at home for senior citizens

KATHMANDU: The Supreme Court (SC) has issued an interim order in the name of the government to vaccinate senior citizens who are unable to go to the vaccination center at home.

A single bench of Justice Prakash Kumar Dhungana issued an interim order to collect the list of senior citizens and those who are unable to reach the vaccination center, or are chronically ill or impaired differently.

Advocate Pravesh KC had filed a writ petition demanding that the citizens who could not reach the vaccination center should be vaccinated against coronavirus.

During the hearing, the bench acknowledged that as a public welfare state, Article 35 (3) of the Constitution guarantees the right of every citizen to equal access to health care and Article 41 protects the fundamental right of senior citizens to special protection and social security from the state.

Hence, the government should arrange for the inoculation of all citizens unable to reach vaccination center for various reasons.
