KATHMANDU: The government has formed a committee to hold talks with the agitating medics and staffs of the BP Koirala Institute of Health Sciences in Dharan.

Minister of State for Health and Population Umesh Shrestha formed a three-member committee under the coordination of Dr Krishna Prasad Poudel.

According to sources, the members of the committee include Joint Secretary for Law Man Bahadur Basnet and another official at the Ministry Devraj Bhandari.

The Ministry of Health officials said that the committee members will start working from Tuesday.

There has been agitation has been at BPKIHS for 47 days. The doctors, staff and students of the academy have put forward 12 point proposal for the improvement of the institute and have been demanding the fulfillment of it at the earliest.

The Joint Struggle Committee of the institute launching cleansing campaign had given on Saturday a 72-hour ultimatum to form a negotiating committee and take concrete steps on the demand.

The ultimatum ends Tuesday evening. The protestors warned to boycott all services and work if the government turned deaf ears to the ultimatum.
