PM calls cabinet meeting

KATHMANDU: Prime Minister (PM) KP Oli has convened a cabinet meeting to be held on Monday evening at the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers’ Office in Singha Durbar.

Initially, the Prime Minister had scheduled a quarterly review meeting for 2 PM on Monday, but his secretariat has announced that this meeting has been postponed in favor of the cabinet meeting.

The agenda for today’s cabinet meeting is expected to include the appointment of the chairman of the Securities and Exchange Board of Nepal.

The recommendation committee formed by the Ministry of Finance has shortlisted three candidates—Santosh Shrestha, Muktinath Shrestha, and Dr. Nawaraj Adhikari—from a pool of five candidates interviewed on Sunday.

According to the Securities and Exchange Act 2063 BS, the recommendation committee must propose three names to the cabinet for the final decision regarding the chairman’s appointment.

Additionally, the cabinet meeting is likely to approve new bills for both the Nepal Police and the Armed Police Force, which will then be submitted to Parliament.

Home Minister Ramesh Lekhak signed the draft of the new Nepal Police and Armed Police Force Act last Friday.
