MEC allows Nepali medical students of foreign universities to do internship in country

KATHMANDU: The Medical Education Commission (MEC) has decided to allow medical students of foreign universities to do their internship in the country.

Nepali students studying medical degree, especially in China, are to benefit from the MEC facilitation; however, this is a one-time facilitation to help students who had been deprived of internship opportunity to attain their degree, according to MEC.

Students concerned have 12 days starting Thursday to apply for internships with the MEC. All students, who completed their MBBS studies by April 2020, are eligible for internship.

The provision brought relief to about 200 students who returned Nepal following Covid-19 outbreak in China and had been unable to return to China to complete their internship and complete their medical certification course.

Nevertheless, the students have already behind for more than a year in attaining their medical degrees.
