CHITWAN: A process has been forwarded for the construction of a modern integrated research lab at Agriculture and Forestry University (AFU), Rampur.
The lab is going to be constructed at a cost of Rs 151.2 million in a new building of the Centre for Biotechnology located at the premises of the university.
Research and Extension Director of the University, Prof Dr Arjun Kumar Shrestha, said that five separate modern labs, namely nutrition analysis, food security, molecular diagnosis, among others, are going to be set up in the laboratory.
Shrestha added, “This lab would be the first modern lab of its kind in the country.” Every unit will have human resources including scientists. The University Grants Commission and the AFU will invest Rs 112 million and Rs 39.2 million respectively for the construction of the lab.
The tender has already been announced and the laboratory would be completed within three years. He shared that the laboratory would be important for the development of the agro sector. The AFU has named it ‘Integrative Research Laboratory’.
The university established 10 years ago, has given special priority to research-oriented activities.
