Nepal observing Mt Everest Day today



KATHMANDU: Nepal is observing Mt Everest Day today in commemoration of the first summit of the world’s highest peak by Sir Edmund Hillary and Tenzing Norgay Sherpa.

It has been 68 years since Sherpa and Hillary first scaled Mt Everest on May 29, 1953.

The Day is observed by organizing memorial events, processions, and special events in Kathmandu and the Everest region.

Nepal has been celebrating Mt Everest Day since 2064 BS.

Around 7,000 mountaineers have successfully climbed Mt Everest in the history of 68 years, according to the Department of Tourism.
