Incumbent govt cannot bring full budget: NC leader Mahat

KATHMANDU: Nepali Congress leader and former Finance Minister Dr Ram Sharan Mahat said the incumbent government cannot bring a full budget.

Talking to reporters, Dr Mahat said the government cannot bring a full budget since it has not taken the vote of confidence, yet.

The government has to take the vote confidence prior to bringing the annual budget.

“Only the government that has already taken the vote of confidence is legally allowed to bring the full budget,” said Dr Mahat.

Prime Minister Oli-led government is currently under compulsion to receive the vote of confidence within 30 days.

Under this circumstance, the government can bring only the working budget, said Mahat, stressing the need to hold pre-budget discussions o prior to bringing it.

He suggested that the government should hold discussions with other political parties, too, before bringing the interim working budget.
