Araniko Highway to close at night for 15 days from July 6

KAVREPALCHOK: The Dhulikhel–Khawa section of the Araniko Highway will remain closed during nighttime for 15 days from July 6 to facilitate ongoing road upgrading and blacktopping works.

The District Security Committee decided to halt vehicle movement along the section from July 6 to 20, restricting operations at night to accelerate construction.

Under the decision, tipper trucks and heavy cargo vehicles will be completely barred from entering the road section during the period. Passenger and other freight vehicles will also be restricted from operating between 7:00 pm and 5:00 am.

Chief District Officer and committee coordinator Gopal Kumar Adhikari said the construction schedule had been adjusted considering the fiscal year-end period to minimise disruption to the transportation of construction materials.

Authorities have urged passenger and cargo vehicles to use alternative routes wherever possible to support the construction work.

Emergency and essential service vehicles, including ambulances, will continue to operate without restriction during nighttime, according to the administration.

The committee said coordination would be maintained with the District Administration Offices of Kathmandu, Bhaktapur, Dolakha and Sindhupalchok to manage traffic and assist drivers during the closure.

Earlier in March, authorities completed blacktopping (DBM-pitch) on around 2.5 kilometres of the road by enforcing nighttime closure and daytime one-way traffic for nearly a month.
