SC fixes bench for hearing on contempt case against PM, four former CJs

KATHMANDU: Supreme Court (SC) has fixed a bench for the contempt of court case filed against Prime Minister KP Oli and four former Chief Justices.

According to SC sources, the Court has assigned the Contempt of Court case filed against Prime Minister KP Oli and former Chief Justices Min Bahadur Rayamajhi, Anup Raj Sharma, Kalyan Shreshtha and Sushila Karki to a joint bench of Justice Ishwor Prasad Khatiwada and Hari Prasad Phuyal.

Advocates Kanchan Krishna Neupane and Kumar Sharma Acharya had filed a contempt of court case against PM Oli on January 26.

Likewise, similar case was filed against four former Chief Justices by advocate Raja Ram Ghimire.

Earlier, a single bench of Justice Manoj Kumar Sharma had ordered PM Oli and the Chief Justices to submit their answer in person.

As directed, PM Oli and all four Chief Justices had submitted their answer in person at the Supreme Court.

They all are accused of making statements that could influence the hearing on the issue going on in the court.

While the case against the dissolution of the parliament was being heard in the Constitutional Bench of Supreme Court, the four former Chief Justices Min Bahadur Rayamajhi, Anup Raj Sharma, Kalyan Shrestha and Sushila Karki had come out with the statement that dissolution of the parliament was not justifiable and could have dire implications.

Similarly, PM Oli had been claiming that the court would give verdict on his favor.

A contempt case has also been filed against CPN-Maoist Center Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ and former Speaker Daman Nath Dhungana.
