KATHMANDU: Flights that were halted at Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA) due to bad weather condition have resumed partially on Friday evening.

Earlier, both domestic and international flights were halted at TIA.

” With the improvement in the visibility, the flights have resumed adopting instrument flight rules (IFR),” said TIA General Manager Pratap Babu Tiwari.

All flights  to and from Kathmandu were affected due to poor visibility caused by dense fogs in the sky in Kathmandu.

Consequently, eight domestic aircrafts that were scheduled to land in the airport have shifted their direction to elsewhere and an international aircraft has changed its direction towards New Delhi.

Following the resumption of halted flights, two aircrafts each belonging to Nepal Airlines Corporation and Himalayan Airlines have landed successfully at TIA, said Tiwari.

There were thick fogs in the Nepali sky with the effects of local and westerly winds, according to the Meteorological Forecasting Division.

Forest fires occurred in some areas of Nepal and neighboring India and dusts in the atmosphere are blamed partly for the fogs, said senior meteorologist at the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology, Raju Pradhananga.

Weather will be clear once the infernos come under control, he said.
