India’s West Bengal Police detains two Chinese nationals with fake Aadhaar cards

They had reached Siliguri from Kathmandu on March 15

KATHMANDU: Police have detained two Chinese nationals at the Bagdogra airport in the Indian state of West Bengal, bordering Nepal, after they failed to provide proper documents on Tuesday.

The arrested have been identified as Jang Jung and Kai Leng, according to siliguritimes.com, an Indian news portal.

One of the arrested was travelling without any proper documents, while the other had a passport but failed to provide a visa.

According to Bagdogra Police, the men had travelled to Karachi from Nepal on January 03. In addition to this, fake Aadhaar cards with Uttar Pradesh as their home address were recovered from their possession.

DCP Kunwar Bhushan Singh said they are carrying out an investigation on them and several documents have been recovered from their possession.

The Aadhaar cards had the addresses of Uttar Pradesh (UP), according to the report.

The two Chinese men detained by Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) personnel said they were going to Ghaziabad in UP.

Officials, however, did not say which flight they were trying to board in Bagdogra.

Kunwar Bhusan Singh, the deputy commissioner of police (west), Siliguri, said, “Two Chinese nationals have been detained as there were discrepancies in their documents. We are verifying the documents. After a thorough inquiry, we will start a case under relevant sections of the law.”

The Chinese men had reached Kathmandu on March 14 and had come to Siliguri on Monday (March 15) where they checked into a hotel, The Hindustan Times said.

According to the report, the hotel rooms were reserved in the names of two Nepali nationals who were traveling with them.

The Nepalese nationals, however, left for their country, the report added.

It has been suspected that they entered West Bengal from eastern Nepal, and investigation has been carried out, Indian police said.
