Federal lawmakers demand hike in CDF

KATHMANDU: Federal lawmakers have stated piling pressure on the government to hike Constitution Development Fund (CDF) to Rs 100 million from Rs 40 million.

Lawmakers  launched a signature campaign to this end on Monday – the very day when budget session began at a time when the local governments are already in place.

They have been demanding with the government to increase the budget so that both lawmakers elected through the first-past-the post system and proportional representation system would spend the budget at their discretion in their respective constituencies.

Experts have described the lawmakers’ demand ‘inappropriate’ as their demand came at a time they should have been dwelling on the government’s policies and programs and upcoming budget. Further, the CDF had been established in the context when there were local governments.
