POKHARA: Gandaki Province Chief Amik Sherchan has expressed his best wishes for the happiness, peace and prosperity of all citizens of Gandaki province as well as all the Nepalis on the occasion of Sonam Lhosar to be observed by Tamang community as their New Year.

Issuing a greetings message today, the Province Chief Sherchan expressed his confidence that such festival and culture inspire all to forge unity and consensus by safeguarding the national independence.

The festival is celebrated by the indigenous Tamang people as the beginning of a new year.

This year, they welcomed the Cow year bidding farewell to the year of Rat. Stating that Nepal is a multi-linguistic, multi-cultural, multi-religious and multi-ethnic country, the province chief has expressed his belief that such festivals have contributed to the strengthening of unity and mutual goodwill among the Nepalis.
