Govt attorneys pleading in favor of HoR dissolution from today

KATHMANDU: Government attorneys including Attorney General Agni Kharel and other lawyers are debating in favor of the House dissolution from today (Monday).

Once the government attorneys finish their arguments, others lawyers will argue in favor of Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli’s  move to dissolve the parliament.

Arguments on behalf of the petitioners against the dissolution of the House of Representatives concluded on Sunday.

As many as 11 advocates including petitioner Tulasi Simkhada argued against the HoR dissolution on Sunday. A total of 413 advocates had registered their names for pleading the writ petitions at the Supreme Court. However, only 68 lawyers advocated against the dissolution of the HoR due to the lack of time.

The writ petitioner’s lawyers have concluded their debates on the case against the dissolution of the House.

Chief Justice Cholendra Shumsher JBR has been leading the five-member Constitutional Bench to look into the case.

On Sunday, 13 writ lawyers argued against the House dissolution at the Constitutional Bench.

All the advocates arguing in favor of the writ petition have demanded that the unconstitutional move be scrapped as the prime minister has no right to dissolve the parliament.

A total of 13 writ petitions were registered at the Supreme Court seeking the restoration of the House, which was dissolved on December 20 by President Bidya Bhandari on the recommendation of Prime Minister KP Oli.

The cases have been heard continuously in the Constitutional Bench since January 6.

The Constitutional Bench comprises CJ Rana, Justices Tej Bahadur KC, Bishwambhar Prasad Shrestha, Anil Kumar Sinha and Sapana Pradan Malla.
