Two new species of birds spotted in Chitwan National Park



CHITWAN: Two new species of birds have been spotted in Chitwan National Park and its surrounding areas.
These birds had not been spotted in the previous years.

According to the former chairperson of Bird Education Society, Basu Bidari, the new birds are Dunlin and Northern Lyakun. Dunlin was found at Reu rivulet of Madi and Lyakun at the farmland of Divyanagar, he added.

The four species of birds spotted last year were not seen this year. With the new two species, water birds of 53 species were counted this year. Birds of 57 species were spotted last year. Bidari shared that birds of 160 species are found in this area.

Nepal is home to birds of 887 species. Of them, birds of 641 species are found in Chitwan. Although bird census was carried out in national parks and other areas from January 2 while it was carried out at Chitwan national Park only from January 10.
