Madhyapur Thimi not to allow schools operate immediately

BHAKTAPUR: Madhyapur Thimi municipality has said it will not allow schools to operate in its municipal area immediately.

The schools have remained shut since Mach 24 when the government imposed lockdown across the county to stem coronavirus pandemic.

Madhyapur Thimi municipality has not allowed schools to resume operations saying that the risk of COVID-19 is still high in the country.

Speaking at an interaction organized by Private and Boarding Schools Organization Nepal, Mayor Madan Sundar Shrestha said he will not allow schools to operate immediately since the risk of COVID-19 is still high in the municipality.

“Currently classes are being run virtually,” said Shrestha, adding, “Let’s run classes virtually until further decision. We can achieve results through virtual classes, too,” said Shrestha.

Schools operators, however, have said they should be allowed to operate schools since classes have resumed physically in other districts and municipalities.
