JSP leaders sharply divided over power sharing

KATHMANDU: The formation of the Central Committee (CC) of Janata Samajwadi Party (JSP) has been hit due to dispute among the top leaders over power sharing issues.

The CC which was supposed to be constituted earlier has not been formed even five months after then Samajwadi Party and Rastriya Janta Party underwent merger to form JSP.

According to the provision laid down in the party statute, a 701-member central committee has to be formed. Sources claim that top-notch leaders have been sharply divided over power sharing without arriving at consensus despite several rounds of meetings.

Currently two different name-lists have been proposed for the central committee members, the sources said.

Earlier, on Monday, top leaders of JSP Mahantha Thakur, Rajendra Mahato, Mahendra Raya Yadav and Raj Kishor Yadav held a meeting to form a central committee but ended without reaching consensus.

The disgruntled group has been saying Thakur and senior leader Mahato are not allocating seats as per the previous agreement. They have prepared a separate name-list.

Earlier, the RJP had 831-member central committee while Samajwadi Party had 431 members in the central committee.
