KATHMANDU: Nepal Electricity Authority’s (NEA) Managing Director Kulman Ghising is leaving office after completing his four-year-long tenure today.
With no initiation on the part of the government for his renewal, Ghising, who has been widely recognized as “widely successful” and “highly esteemed” Managing Director of NEA is leaving the office today.
Ghising was appointed as the chief executive post of NEA on September 14, 2016. The government is yet to take a decision about the renewal of Ghising.
Despite holding the lucrative post of the NEA, Ghising is said to be not in the Prime Minister’s picklist as he has not given the PM the credit of the miraculous performance of NEA.
Formerly appointed as the NEA head by then Minister for Energy Janardan Sharma, Ghising is said to be in picklist of incumbent Minister for Energy Barasaman Pun and ruling Nepal Communist Party (NCP) Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal.
The PM, however, has responded that he would take decision soon.
Although Ghising got a public applause for his skillful management and making the country load-shedding free, his closeness to one of the party chairman Dahal and indifference towards the PM Oli has made his renewal as MD of NEA uncertain.
Prior to Ghising’s appointment as NEA’s MD, NEA was not only going through the financial crisis, as the country was facing up to 18 hours long power cuts a day.
NCP sources claim that the renewal of Ghising as the key post holder of NEA largely depends on the good relationship between the chairmen duo of ruling NCP.
