BIRATNAGAR: A writ petition has been filed at the Biratnagar High Court seeking an investigation into the incident and action against the culprits arguing that a COVID-19 patient died due to the negligence of the hospital.

Nilima Dahal, daughter of Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA) employee Sitaram Dahal, who died due to coronavirus infection on August 12, filed a writ petition at the High Court on Wednesday.

Secretariat for Monitoring and Data Collection and Monitoring, Ministry of Social Development, COVID-19 Management Center, Department of Public Health of Biratnagar Metropolitan City, BP Koirala Institute of Health Sciences, Dharan, Koshi Hospital, Biratnagar have been named defendants in the writ.

According to the writ petition, Sitaram was admitted to Koshi Hospital on August 10 after contracting the coronavirus while he was engaged in regular office work.

She has mentioned that the health workers said that her father’s condition was normal when she had gone to visit him, adding that her father had told her that no one paid any attention to him during his admission at the hospital.

The writ had stated that it was important to hold the defendants accountable as the three-tier of governments are not responsible for treating coronavirus cases and the general public is unable to get treatment for even common ailments due to a tendency to skip own responsibility.
